Celebrating India’s 14th National Voters’ Day, the Department of Political Science at Fazl Ali College observed under its theme “Nothing like Voting, I Vote for Sure.” Ms. Lipokrenla Jamir, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science as the theme speaker, stressed the pivotal role of individual voters in fostering informed decision-making and actively championing voter awareness. She delved into the historical context of National Voters’ Day, elucidating its profound importance in upholding both the government’s health and the vitality of democracy itself. Ms. Jamir emphasized that the democracy’s well-being hinges on each voter’s active participation. Attendees, including teaching and non-teaching staff along with students, were encouraged to exercise their voting rights in forthcoming elections. The event culminated with participants collectively taking the voter’s pledge, solidifying their commitment to responsible citizenship and the democratic process. This inclusive observance marked a concerted effort by the college to instill civic responsibility and engagement among its academic community.
After the talk, participants including teaching, non-teaching staff, and students, solemnly recited the Voter’s Pledge. The pledge expressed their unwavering faith in democracy and their commitment to upholding the democratic traditions of India. They vowed to ensure the dignity of free, fair, and peaceful elections and pledged to vote fearlessly, without succumbing to influences related to religion, race, caste, community, language, or any inducement. This powerful affirmation underlined their dedication to the principles of democratic governance and their responsibility as citizens to contribute to the electoral process with integrity and fairness. The recitation of the Voters Pledge served as a poignant moment, reinforcing the values of democratic participation and civic responsibility among the academic community at the college.
